Sanctaria will decline to send a delegation to the inaugural IDU regional Olympic Games later this summer, this paper can exclusively reveal. Sources within the Department of Culture, the Arts, and Heritage have confirmed that due to the team’s poor performance in the international XIII Olympiad, the Department couldn’t justify the cost.

The decision, which is likely to be officially announced tomorrow in the government’s weekly “press dump” of bad news, will disappoint a whole host of Sanctarian athletes who were looking forward to representing the Divine Federation amongst their peers in the region.

The IDU Olympic Games will be held in Shuell this summer, with nations from across the IDU sending sporting delegations, including the reclusive authoritarian nation of Kerlile, who it is believed will just be sending female athletes. Even Lauchenoiria, disunited and fiscally challenged from trying to rebuild after their civil war, are sending a delegation, a point which will no doubt be made to Culture Secretary Amanda Thomas in the House of Deputies next week when she takes weekly questions.

Sanctaria’s sports funding has taken a slash since the Democratic Left Party came into government, with last year’s sports budget down an average of 2% on previous years. The DLP had pledged to increase sport funding in the last election.
